BI 366

Biodiversity of Vascular Plant

The course focuses on the diversity of vascular plants from Ontario and provides an introduction to the principles and practice of biological systematics and classification (taxonomy). Emphasis will be placed on learning the appropriated terminology in order to describe and identify flowering plants, as well as on understanding the methods used by systematists to infer phylogeny and develop classifications. It is the ultimate goal of the instructor to enable students to identify the vascular plants that might be encountered, and to understand their phylogenetic relationships. Prerequisite: BI263 or permission of the department. Exclusion: BI206, BI396d.
